About NCI Works...

NCI Works is responsible for planning and coordinating the communities’ resources into a workforce development system.  This 43 member board is comprised of private sector employers as well as representatives from education, labor, and partnering public agencies from Bureau, LaSalle, Lee and Putnam Counties designated as Local Workforce Investment Area #12 (LWA #12.) Established under the guidance of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) this local workforce board’s goal is to provide leadership for a world class workforce system.

Purpose & Goals
The North Central Illinois Works has adopted five-year priority goals that will serve as the basis for establishing and improving the one-stop delivery system in LWA #12.  These goals and how they will impact the one-stop delivery system while meeting customer needs are as follows:

1:  Identify and respond to employer needs related to its workforce.

2:  Educate and train a workforce to prepare them for the globally

     competitive marketplace.

3:   Remove barriers to employment.

4:   Expand community awareness of workforce and economic

     development efforts and issues.

5:   Obtain, coordinate and maximize resources to support

      workforce and economic development

MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA

The NCI Works Board consists of 43 individuals representing private business or industry, education, labor and the partner agencies that support the workforce system.  Board members are nominated by leaders in their respective areas, and are appointed by the local chief elected officials (county board chairmen) or their designee.

Board member applications are reviewed by a committee of current board members and recommended nominees are forwarded to the Local Elected Officials of each county.  Nominees are recommended based upon available board positions.  Those positions are based upon two key factors:

  • required public sector representation, and

  • private sector labor market categories, such as manufacturing, and wholesale/retail sales, among others
